Standard Leg Dimensions
 |
Dim. ‘A’ - 1-1/2” STD - Top Leg - 1” Deflection
Dim. ‘B’ - 1-1/2” STD - Bottom Leg - 1” Deflection
Dim. ‘C’ & ‘D’ - 5/8” STD - Wall Mat’l Thickness - 1 hr.
Dim. ‘C’ & ‘D’ - 1-1/4” STD - Wall Mat’l Thickness - 2 hr.
Dim. ‘E’ - Stud Size
|
| |
Dim ‘A’
- 1-1/2” Standard for 1", 1-1/2", and 2" of deflection
- 2" Standard for deflections exceeding 2"
Dim ‘B’
- Determines how much movement the track will provide
- Typically 1/2” longer than the deflection of range of motion required
- Maximum length is 6-1/2” for 6” of deflection or range of motion
- Most joints are subjected to movement in both directions.
- For example, a joint required to handle 2” of deflection and 1” of extension would have a 3” range of motion.
Dim ‘C’ and ‘D’
- Made to accommodate the wall material thickness
- Standard dimensions are 5/8” for 1 hour, 1-1/4” for 2 hour, and 1-7/8” for 3 hour
- Can be any size and can also be differing sizes (ie. ‘C’ = 5/8” and ‘D’ = 1-1/4”)
Dim ‘E’
- The same as the stud size

Leg Dimensions for Varying Movements
(Deflection and/or Extension)
Deflection
- Downward movement of the roof or floor deck
- Joint compression due to dead loads, live loads, snow loads, ect.
Extension
- Upward movement of the roof or floor deck
- Joint opens larger than installed width due to negative air pressure (roof lift) or the deck beneath compressing
Range of Motion
- Both downward (deflection) and upward (extension) movement
- Most joints are subjected to movement in both directions
- For example, a joint required to handle 2” of deflection and 1” of extension would have a 3” range of motion
